Geotour Introduction
Let's go on a Uenohara Geo Tour!
The Yamanashi Uenohara Geopark area is located in the easternmost part of Yamanashi Prefecture, and is a 90-minute train ride from Tokyo (Shinjuku).
Located approximately 60 to 70 kilometers from the center of the Tokyo metropolitan area, it serves as an important hub for exchange, acting as the eastern gateway from the Kanto region, centered around Tokyo, to Yamanashi Prefecture.
The river terraces formed by the Katsura River, Akiyama River, Tsurukawa River, Nakama River, and their tributaries that flow through the city form the foundation of the residents' lives. The natural environment created by the mountains, terraces, and rivers is blessed with various natural characteristics, such as long hours of sunshine.
Yamanashi Uenohara holds significant geological value and is crucial to understanding the formation of the Japanese archipelago. Located in the southern Fossa Magna, which has a particularly complex formation within the Fossa Magna, there are many places where you can observe rock faces that have been reclaimed in three different ways!
We look forward to your visit to Uenohara City!
